Some people develop white spots on the teeth. It’s not dangerous and you
can consult your Spokane Valley dentist about it. White spots also occur on the
nails and are generally harmless. The spots are hypomineralization on the
tooth’s surface, and appear like chunky white deposits on the tooth. Your
dentist can suggest two solutions to lessening the appearance of your spots, if
they bother you too much.
Bleach or whitening treatment
Teeth bleaching will make your teeth whiter, it will also make the spots
whiter, but overall less visible against the bleached tooth. The brighter and
whiter tooth reduces the appearance of chunky spots, and they will only be
noticeable when you look very closely. If you are not satisfied with the
results of a whitening treatment, your dentist can suggest a macro or micro
abrasion treatment.
Polishing the tooth
Your dentist will polish the tooth with micro or macro abrasion,
depending on the condition and discoloration on the surface of your tooth.
Abrasion will partially or completely take out the white spot from your tooth.
Then a composite made to match the natural color of your tooth is applied to
the replace the part of the tooth that was removed. Hopefully, this color
match is successful and will completely blend in with the rest of your teeth.
